Operations commenced in January 2014 following the restructuring of the former electricity board in 2013. With a registered consumer base of approximately 3.2 million and a peak load of around 2,150 MW (FY 17-18), the organization supplies electricity to various consumer categories, including high-tension and low-tension industries, domestic users, non-domestic consumers, and agricultural connections.

The state has worked towards the national vision of ensuring electricity access for every household and integrating digital technologies to enhance service delivery. The key focus areas for transformation have included expanding electricity access, strengthening infrastructure, leveraging technology, achieving financial sustainability, and promoting environmentally responsible development. Since its inception, the organization has taken various initiatives to enhance reliability and service quality. 

Efforts to reduce dependence on conventional energy sources include power purchase agreements (PPAs) for 200 MW and 300 MW of wind energy, with additional agreements in progress. Furthermore, procurement of 750 MW of solar power is underway. The organization continues to focus on strengthening its electricity distribution network to enhance reliability and efficiency.
